And we have a double feature for Feature Friday this week with some Valentine's Day recommendations! . First off, our Langhe Nebbiolo red wine from Italy. Staff describe it as wonderfully full bodied, a bold burst of flavor, and a great wine for sipping with food. . Secondly, our Dark Rose tea. These tiny, heart shaped tea cakes are adorable and delicious! Dark tea pressed with rose petals that unfurl as you steep. As part of the Spice on Snow Music Festival in Montpelier this weekend, we are thrilled to be hosting Patti Casey's Bluegrass Jam at the cafe on Saturday, January 26 from 2:00 - 3:30!! We will be serving special cajun inspired fare including clam and chorizo stew, cornbread with hot pepper honey, and spicy chai in addition to our usual delicious teas, wines, beer, cider, light fare, and snacks! This is a free event, but we are sure to get packed so get here early to guarantee a spot.
Opening at 10 am today.... we are warming up the cafe and will see you a little later this morning... Hot teas and lattes and a cozy warm space! Come in and spend some time with us today!
Feature Friday and Important Note: We will be opening early at 9 am tomorrow (Saturday) with a special menu of grab and go hot drinks and sweet and savory foods to fuel up before the Women's March. Make sure to stop by for a little respite from the chilly day! Next up, our Feature Friday this week is Anna Scoppettone. Anna is a college student at the University of Connecticut and has been coming to the North Branch since the beginning! She also works as a seasonal and "relief" employee when she's back in Montpelier. "Like most of the staff, my favorite tea changes from day to day. But one of my consistent favorites is our newest sencha green tea, the Yabukita from Sugimoto Tea. Although I love all of our senchas, the Yabukita is unmatched in its brilliant color and bright flavor. It's great for multiple steeps as well, so come sit for a while and enjoy a few glasses! Bonus: Out cafe dog, Bailey, seems to enjoy it as well!"

"I'm with Lauren, it's impossible to choose a favorite! (Referencing last Friday's post.) I choose each one of our wines and think there's something special about each one. That said, we have a wine in the Enomatic right now that is so cool--I love everything about it! It's organic, the winery is known for its socially and environmentally responsible practices, it's delicious and complex, AND it has a very economical price! It's a Viognier from Santa Julia Winery in Argentina. Viognier is a grape with origins in southern France. Similar in body to Chardonnay, it is a naturally fuller bodied wine perfect for the colder months. This one, though, balances its full round nature with a wonderfully fresh crispness, fantastic tropical flavors, and if you pay attention, you can detect a savory, almost umami, nature underlying. The winery has Fair for Life certification, which guarantees that its workers enjoy good and fair working conditions, and a portion of all sales are reinvested into programs which directly benefit the workers. It's a new year and we're going to start a new series, Feature Friday! We'll be featuring staff and regular customers to share their favorite items from the cafe! To start us off, we've got The North Branch Cafe owner, Lauren Parker! * "Teas are like children, and therefore cannot be favored one over the other...Each has their own personality and brings different qualities to the family. Since I have either selected or had a role in selecting every single one of our nearly 125 teas, as their North Branch mother, I have to say I value all of them. Each day, every emotion calls for a series of considerations. There are teas for moments I am tired versus those where I am energized or excited; for bright sunny days versus cloudy cold days; for needing comfort versus needing focus; for sharing with friends versus contemplating life all by myself. Hopefully, I will have many opportunities to share my tea selections. For today, I am giving two because each consideration has a close second! Both happen to come from the beautiful mountains of Nepal and the Nepali Tea Traders out of Boston. Sagarmatha Gold black tea and Jade Spring White tea. Why do I love them?
